Sunday Scoop - April 26, 2015

Sunday, April 26, 2015

This week, I’m linking up with The Teaching Trio again for The Sunday Scoop.

3 things I have to do:
Finish grading papers – I worked on this yesterday, but I still have some Science and some writing left to go.
Finish planning for the week – I had all of my lessons written for the week, but found out Friday afternoon that we are changing our testing schedule for the state test….so instead of testing on Monday, I need to figure out what I’ll be teaching.
Brush Nellie My golden retriever needs brushing ALL THE TIME!  But today should be nice enough to do it outside (which helps the cleanliness of my house!)

2 things I hope to do:
Mow the grass – I use “hope” very loosely here… I need to mow, but it rained all day yesterday, so it may be too wet to get this done today.
Organize my school bag – My school bag has become incredibly heavy lately.  I need to work through it and see if I can take anything out.

1 thing I’m happy to do:
Read my students’ latest stories – My kids worked on animal migration stories this week.  They were fictional stories, but had to show an animal migrating.  They had a lot of fun planning and writing, so I’m excited to read the final products!

The Sunday Scoop - March 1, 2015

Sunday, March 1, 2015

This week, I’m linking up with The Teaching Trio again for The Sunday Scoop.

3 things I have to do…
* Grade papers
We did a lot of writing in class this week, so I have a lot of writing to grade today.  With two swim meets this week, I got a little behind on grading the longer assignments.

* Finish Lesson Plans
I have everything planned except my Writing lessons and a Math lesson on Monday.  I have an idea for Monday’s math lesson, but it needs developed.  We’re working on mean, median, mode, and range, and I want to make it fun!  The Writing plans shouldn’t take too long either.  We worked on persuasive paragraph writing on Friday, so I want to extend it into a longer piece this week.  (You can see my post about Friday’s lesson here).

* Clean My House!
Again, there were two swim meets this week, so…my house chores kind of took a hit.  I did most of my cleaning on Friday after school, but I have a little left for today.  I’ll also be shoveling off and on again today, because it’s been snowing already and isn’t supposed to stop until tonight.

2 things I hope to do…
* Wednesday’s lineup
We only have one swim meet this week, but it’s a tough team.  This lineup is going to take some time!

* Carnival Decorating Design
My school picks a theme for carnival every year and each grade level is supposed to decorate their hallway to represent part of the theme.  This year’s theme is “Family Game Night” and the fifth grade hall is “Scrabble.”  I’ll be working up my design today so we can get working on the actual decorating this week!

1 thing I’m happy to do
* Read!
I started The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate this week, and I absolutely LOVE it!  In case you aren’t familiar with the book, it is the story of a silverback gorilla (named Ivan) living in a circus themed mall.  It is told from his perspective and the writing is fantastic!

Now that I am typing about what I have to do today, I am in better shape than I thought!  Looks like I may have more time to read than I thought I would!

What are your Sunday plans?

Sunday Scoop – February 22, 2015

Sunday, February 22, 2015

This week, I’m linking up with The Teaching Trio for The Sunday Scoop.

3 things I have to do…
* Grade my mountain of papers – I had the stomach flu on Thursday and Friday, so my grading took a back burner to sleep.  Then, I spent yesterday lesson planning.  So today is grading day!

* Prepare for Monday’s swim meet – I am coaching the middle school swim team, and our first meet is Monday!  (It was supposed to be last week, but wind chills of -25 closed school and cancelled the meet.)  I need to enter my lineup (which is finished!) into my database so everything is set.  However, this will require a trip to school….so I may wait until tomorrow morning for that.

* Vacuum – I have a golden retriever, so I have to vacuum just about every day.

2 things I hope to do…
* Finish my book – I’m reading Eleanor and Park byRainbow Rowell, and it is fantastic!  I’m hoping to finish it this afternoon.

* Brush Nellie – The golden retriever I mentioned REALLY needs a brushing.  But she HATES being brushed.  I am hoping to win the battle today.

1 thing I’m happy to do
* A little bit of relaxing! – This coming week is going to be a busy one, with two swim meets in addition to practice and school.  I’m happy to do a little reading and relaxing this afternoon to prepare for the crazy week ahead.
